Dear mathNEWS readers:

As many of you know, mathNEWS and MathSoc have had some financial difficulties this term. In fact, mathNEWS 's costs have doubled because the price of photocopies has doubled!

The problem is that MathSoc can no longer afford to be the sole provider for mathNEWS. This is where you the readers of mathNEWS come in.

What has been proposed by mathNEWS and MathSoc is that a new refundable fee be added to each full-time Math student's fee statement. It would be on the order of $2.50 per term, starting in Spring 1997. The referendum will take place this term and next, during the election for Spring 1997 MathSoc exec (this term in a few weeks) and the election for the Winter/Fall 1997 MathSoc exec (beginning of next term).

Make your voice heard! If you'd like to see mathNEWS continue to provide entertainment and information, or if you think mathNEWS is a worthless expense not worth $2.50 a term, let us know by voting! We need your feedback and, besides, it's your money we're dealing with!
